Thacher School Field Classroom
Upper watershed fire restoration + solar pollinator field planting
The Thacher School campus was severely affected by the 2017 Thomas Fire. In the Spring of 2018 Watershed Progressive mobilied emergency Restoration Plantings. The goals of the restoration were to:
Reduce erosion and sediment flows in the upper watershed.
Reduce sediment flows passing through the schools’ equine unit.
Reduce phosphorous nutrient loads from the equine unit from passing into the watershed.
Reduce pollution from the watershed from passing into the Pacific ocean.
Through the construction of check dams, water bars, sediment basins, native plantings and hydroseeding, the areas affected by fire have been in restoration.
In Fall 2023, Watershed Progressive completed planning, construction administration, and construction services at The Thacher School in collaboration with the Ventura County Resource Conservation District for the installation of the Solar Field Pollinator Planting project.
Watershed Progressive trained volunteers from the school community on identifying and weeding invasive plant species to prepare the site for hydroseeding.
