PAY: $50,000 - $90,000 Annually commensurate with experience

About the Position
Watershed Progressive is hiring a Landscape Designer to join our team! As a Landscape Designer at Watershed Progressive, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission of “connecting communities with their watersheds through integrated strategies for a healthy, resilient future” through your skills, expertise, and contribution to a dynamic team. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks related to sustainable landscape design including CAD drafting, grading plans, planting plans, renderings, landscape design plans, sections and perspective drawings, graphic design for public engagement material on landscape, ecology, and water conservation. Additional tasks may include infographics, fliers, educational signage design, and websites; multimedia presentations; graphic formatting for report documents; website and social media management; and translating technical information into graphic formats. Your work will contribute to the development and implementation of projects that engage communities in building local climate resilience. The ideal candidate has:  

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Visual Communication Design, or a related field; 

  • AutoCAD software high proficiency plus experience using Land-FX; 

  • Stormwater BMP/landscape grading;  

  • Knowledge of California native plants and plant ecology; 

  • Planting design/planting plan drafting; 

  • Can interpret creative direction and adapt points from creative briefs into persuasive communication concepts; 

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; 

  • Excellent, professional, oral, & written communication skills; 

  • Familiarity with conveying ecological design concepts;  

  • Proven experience producing compelling and effective visuals; and  

  • Ability to be self-motivated working remotely or within teams. 

 
Any of these additional skills and experience are a plus:  

  • Experience with nature-based design, Low Impact Design (LID) and holistic design approaches;  

  • Excellent social media skills and experience developing social media outreach strategies; 

  • Website design/development/administration experience; 

  • Strong skills in graphic design, website design, social media management, public outreach strategies; 

  • Sketchup, Rhino, or other 3D rendering software experience; 

  • ArcView GIS software skills; 

  • Ability to manage projects and lead teams; 

  • Experience with public outreach; 

  • Experience with animation software; and 

  • Ability to project manage, lead and work on multiple projects concurrently. 

The Landscape Designer will report to the Design Hub Manager and work closely with other multidisciplinary staff including the Environmental Design Director, the Creative Development and Communications Manager; and will be expected to coordinate team members on project-based tasks.

Onboarding  

Within 1 month in this role, you will:  

  • Begin to understand the intersection of Watershed Progressive’s multiple programs and projects and how they work towards the organization’s mission statement.  

  • Begin to understand the integration of WP’s toolkits and multiple benefits.  

  • Be comfortable working across multiple platforms to communicate with team members and external partners, complete and delegate project tasks, find relevant project background information and document project steps.  

  • Contribute to creating compelling landscape design plans and graphics. 

 

Within 3 months in this role, you will:  

  • Be involved in multiple projects. 

  • Understand who our various project partners, collaborators, funders, and stakeholders are and their roles in our projects and programs.  

  • Understand the potential impact you can have on creating healthy watershed communities through design, outreach and engagement. 

 
Within 6 months in this role, you will:  

  • Understand the potential impact of our work through interconnected scales, from small sites to large watersheds.  

  • Contribute to creating meaningful designs at various scales through developing multiple kind of representation of landscape transformation that conveys how to take action where we live work and play to build a resilient future for all.
