    Watershed Progressive (WP) is currently seeking a GIS professional who is proficient with spatial analysis, automation with Python, modeling, research, report writing, cartography, and project management. This position is focused on water conservation modeling. It requires the ability to take directions to execute work products including standalone Python scripts, image classification, spatial statistics, and map production. Successful candidates will have a proven track record for meeting deadlines and working independently in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision. Technical ability and Python scripting are the most important qualities for this job but experience with urban planning and environmental science issues facing watersheds in California is highly desired.

WP has offices in Groveland, CA near Yosemite and in Ojai, CA. This position can be entirely remote work, except for 2 annual retreats.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Modeling the impact of water conservation practices with GIS.

  • Develop Python scripts to automate workflows.

  • Research and report preparation.

  • Imagery classification, including using multispectral imagery and LiDAR to delineate impervious surfaces and rooftops.

  • Create interactive dashboards and apps.

  • Assist with StoryMap development.

  • Facilitate geodesign exercises.

  • Writing technical documentation.

  • Preparing maps for reports.

  • Research best available sources of data and methodologies.

  • Innovative approaches to complex GIS challenges.

  • Communicate effectively with GIS manager and other project team members.

  • Analyze, design, develop and maintain GIS data and metadata.

  • Research, collect, compile, and analyze information and data to be used in GIS.

    Provide high quality maps and reports as needed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • You must meet the following requirements for Analyst 1 position on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.

  • Four years of experience with GIS as related to this job description.

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, geography, planning, cartography, or a closely related field.

  • NOTE: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.

    NOTE: A Master's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, geography, planning, cartography, or a closely related field may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • 4 plus years experience working as a GIS Analyst for Analyst 1 position.

  • 2 or more years of experience with project and team management for Analyst 1 position.

  • Understanding of the principals of urban and environmental planning.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency and knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

  • Intermediate to advanced Python scripting.

  • Imagery classification, including using multispectral imagery and LiDAR to delineate impervious surfaces and rooftops.

  • Experience working with Esri’s Hydrology toolset.

  • A basic understanding of irrigation demand calculations.

  • Knowledge of cartographic fundamentals.

  • Knowledge of research methods and procedures used in data modeling and statistical analysis.

  • A strong ability to effectively manage time; flexibility with shifting priorities; and good communication skills.

  • Attention to detail while also understanding overarching goals of project.

  • Knowledge of research methods and procedures used in data modeling and statistical analysis.

  • Experience working in remote external/internal project teams.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

  • Understanding of concepts related to statistical analysis.

  • Understanding of California planning and land use law.

  • Advanced Excel.

  • Project management.

  • California water policy working knowledge.

  • Water resource analysis or management project experience.
